Guilty Crown: Genesis (Ep.1)

Shu, an ordinary high school student meets a well-known internet diva named Inori, who is secretly a rebel trying to free Japan from the hands of foreign invaders known as the GHQ. Their fated meeting is the beginning of a new story about a power that could reverse the tide of war.

The singer of Egoist, Inori Yuzuriha
After a pandemic known as the Apocalypse Virus cause anarchy and chaos all over Japan, an international organization known as the GHQ took advantage and conquered them to restore order throughout the land. 10 years have passed since the peace was restored but GHQ still refuses to give Japan back its independence, saying that they no longer possess the power to protect themselves and force them to obey through martial law.

This scene reminds me of Aerith's church for some reason.
Shu is a high school student who feels lost and different. He tries to get along with others but they misunderstood him most of the time because he thinks differently than the rest.He spends most of his time watching YouTube videos of a band known as Egoist where the lead singer is a beautiful diva by the name of Inori.

Nice bareback you got there, Inori.
One day, he went to his secret hideout to eat lunch and was shocked to see Inori singing inside. He was watching silently from the background but that tiny bliss ended when he accidentally hits a can of soda, alerting the girl of his presence.

Dr. Ginger? Must be Dr. Pepper's long lost cousin.
The little insect robot, Funell, springs into action to protect Inori from the stalker but it was all just a misunderstanding. The two had a brief moment of peace to talk before soldiers from the GHQ arrives to the scene. They captured Inori and threatened Shu to shut the hell up and cries about his helplessness afterwards.

Honestly speaking, I thought Funell was a lot bigger than this.
Funell holds the Void Genome that Inori stole from GHQ and the robot instructs Shu where they must deliver the goods. Unable to save the girl, Shu decided to at least finish her mission and went to the location. It was located in an abandoned area full of thugs and criminals and he was attacked by a group of them. The resistance group "Undertaker" arrives in time to save him and retrieved Funell but the GHQ attacks the site and everything went into chaos.

Blindfolds, handcuffs and bandages are now my fetish.
A battle ensues between the GHQ and the Undertaker and while everyone was busy killing each other, Inori managed to find an escape route and run away. That freedom didn't last much as the enemy easily spots her running away. Shu saw her being targeted by the enemy units and mustered up all the courage he have to try and save her. This caused the bottle of Void Genome on Shu's pocket to break, granting him powers from the realm of gods.

Who is this girl? Related to Inori?
The two wakes up inside the void and an image of a girl flashes in front of his eyes. She then grants him the power of the kings, Guilty Crown, the power to use other people as weapons. Inori asks him to "use" her and he complied, pulling out shards of void from her heart and forming into a giant sword. He then proceeded to eliminate the enemies then the episode comes to an end.

Introducing the Void technology.
Speculation time! The girl he sees during the flashback was probably infected by the Apocalypse Virus as we can see that the shards and crystals are growing out of her body. Both her hair and eye color also seems to be similar to Inori so there's also a possibility that she's related to her in some way. Also, the Void Genome could be a byproduct of the Apocalypse Virus, I don't have anything to back that up though.

Next Episode:
Phase 02: Survival of the Fittest

Until next time.

Wait! Before you go, here's some delicious pictures of Inori.

Is is true that Dr Ginger is the official beverage of people with no soul?

Hahaha Dr. Ginger. I heard they tried to market Dr. Pepper in Japan and got mixed results. Apparently they thought it tasted like medicine. Or something, it's been a long time and a bad source of info probably.

Nice visual, thanks for review.

Dr. Pepper was too mainstream anyway.

The style looks awesome. I thought it would be more generic.

This seems like it could evolve into an epic story, apocaliptic virus?

Dr Pepper is only for men of science. Let the kids drink Dr Ginger.

@Dalf
I'm not sure but I'm hoping for 2 cours length or 26 episodes.

@Lendo Khar
A certain NEET detective would be quite pissed to hear that.

This anime is kinda like Code Geass in a way. You got the mechs, the protagonist who has a power, and a common enemy... (always a western country) -.-
