Fate/EXTRA: The First Selection (Round 1)

The first Master you'll face in the Holy Grail War is Shinji Matou. If you've seen the anime or the visual novel then you know that he's nothing but some cocky bastard trying to act tough just to piss you off. Here's a guide for the first week of the game.

The First Selection

Day 1

Morning:
  • Nurse's Office:
Your character wakes up inside the Nurse's Office. Your Servant will then appear and ask you about the Holy Grail War.

    Holy Grail War?
    Of course.

Select "Holy Grail War?" if you are new to this game and is unfamiliar with the term. Otherwise, select "Of course." to skip the explanation. Your Servant will then ask you another question afterwards.

    Sorry, I don't have a clue?
    Yes, of course.

Again, select "Sorry, I don't have a clue?" if you are new to this game and is unfamiliar with the Servants. Otherwise, select "Yes, of course." to skip the explanation.

    Additional Question from Saber:
If you've chosen Saber as your Servant then she will ask you a third question.

    Saber.

    Rider.

    I don't know.

Obviously, "Saber." is the correct option. Choosing otherwise will piss her off but will not affect your perfect game whatsoever.

Sakura will arrive afterwards to give you the key item Portable Terminal.

  • Rooftop:
    Long event with Rin Tousaka.
Evening:
  • Commissary:
New items available in the shop.

    ITEMS:
    Yakisoba Bread 150 PPT
    Curry Bread 100 PPT
    Ether Powder 100 PPT
    Ether Shard 500 PPT
    Return Crystal 300 PPT

    FORMAL WEAR:

    Durable Gym Clothes 2,000 PPT

    • School Building 2F:
Talk to the Female Student inside of Classroom 2-A. She'll tell you to find Father Kotomine.

    • School Building 3F:
Talk to Rani in front of the stairs. She'll also suggest finding Father Kotomine.

    • Rooftop:
Talk to Rin Tousaka to get some information.

      What is the SE.RA.PH anyway?

Please tell me what you can.
I don't really need any info.

Ask away then select the last option to finish the discussion.

    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Taiga Fujimura and she'll ask you to search for her Kendo Sword inside the Arena.

      Of course.

      Sorry. No can do.

    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Father Kotomine and you'll be allowed to ask a few questions.

      How do I survive this?

      Preparation period.

      About the terminal.
I'm as prepared as I can be.

You are free to ask him as many questions as you like, as long as you select the last option afterwards to proceed with the story. He'll give you the key item Private Room Password which allows you to use Classroom 2-B as your Private Room.

    • School Building 1F:
Head to the place where you saw the hidden door during the Prologue, which is now the Arena Entrance. Check the door and your Servant will warn you. Enter the Arena afterwards.

      I understand. Thanks.

      Sorry. What was that again?
    Arena:
    • First Chimeric Lunar Sea — First Floor:
Since this is your first time entering the Arena your Servant will forbid you to go past half of the map. After fighting some mobs and gaining a few levels, return to the entrance and the day will end.

Taiga's Request will only show up on the map if you accepted her request.

    Day 2

    Midday:
    • School Building 2F:
Enemy data is announced on the bulletin board. Your opponent is Shinji Matou.
      Enemy Servant Matrix Level 0.
    Evening:
    • School Building 2F:
Talk to Father Kotomine in front of the stairs and he'll inform you about cipher keys and Triggers and how important they are to the game. Select the last option when you're done listening to him.

      Triggers?

      Two?
      I know.

    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Shinji Matou and listen to him brag about how great he is.

    • Nurse's Office:
Talk to Sakura Matou and she'll give you an Ether Powder for free.

    Arena:
    • First Chimeric Lunar Sea — First Floor:
You'll meet Shinji and his Servant in the middle of the map and they will challenge you to a battle.

    • Servant Battle:
Victory Condition: Survive for 3 turns.
Shinji's Servant is the weakest since she is the first Servant you fight. This battle is more like an introduction to her fighting style, so you would know how to fight her the next time you meet. After the battle you will be awarded with Matrix Level 1 for your enemy Servant.

      SKILL LIST:
      Culverin Cannons
      Target: Enemy
Inflicts physical damage on an enemy.
She will use this skill on the 3rd move.
      CODE CAST:
      shock(32);
Physical damage and Stun on enemy.
The effect would only last for 1 move.
      loss_lck(64);
      Decreases enemy's luck.
The effect would only last for 3 turns.
Pretty pointless considering that you don't have much luck at this point.

      I guess you're right.

    • First Cipher Key:
Grab the Trigger Code Alpha before exiting the Arena as you'll need it on Day 7.

    • Taiga's Request:
Grab the Kendo Sword before exiting the Arena as you'll need it on Day 4.

    Day 3

    Evening:
    • Classroom 2-A:
      Event with your Servant.

      I understand.

      Once more, please.

    • School Building 2F:
Head to the Library to see an event with Shinji Matou and Rin Tousaka.
      Enemy Servant Matrix Level 2.

      SABER:
      Yes it was.

      ARCHER:
      Got it.

      CASTER:
      Got it.

    • Library:
Search the shelves to get info about the Armada and then talk to the Female Student in the north-east corner of the room to get info about dual-wielding pistols.

    Day 4

    Evening:
    • School Building 2F:
Talk to Rin Tousaka. She'll tell you to go to the Library to gather information. There are choices afterwards, but it won't affect anything in the story so just choose whatever you want.

Why are you telling me this?

      Thank you.

    • Private Room (Saber):
Special conversation with Saber. Viewing this conversation is required for your Servant to reach Matrix Level E before the end of the game.

      Speak with Saber

      Save

      Leave your private room

You can choose any option below but the 2nd option makes her the happiest.

      What's your true name?
      Are you a girl, Saber?

      Why are you so imperious.

    • Private Room (Archer):
Special conversation with Archer. Viewing this conversation is required for your Servant to reach Matrix Level E before the end of the game.

      Speak with Archer

      Save

      Leave your private room

      You have something against school?

      What do you mean, "intentional"?

      By "soldier" you mean yourself...?

      What's with the attitude?

      ...Fair enough, silence it is.

    • Private Room (Caster):
Special conversation with Caster. Viewing this conversation is required for your Servant to reach Matrix Level E before the end of the game.

      Speak with Caster

      Save

      Leave your private room

Additional options will appear if your character's gender is female. The new option will not affect your progress in any way, so you may choose it if you like.

      MALE MC:

What do you mean by "T Regulations?"

      FEMALE MC:

What do you mean by "T Regulations?"

I am a girl, you know.

    • Library:
Talk to Shinji then search the shelves to get some information about Leo's Servant, Gawain. You can also talk to Leo to gain some background information about the Moon Cell.

      I'm good!
      Yes please, Leo.

    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Taiga Fujimura and give her the Kendo Sword. She'll ask you to search for a Tangerine inside the Arena.

      Sure, why not?

      No way.

    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Father Kotomine to unlock Alteration of the Soul inside the Chapel. Head to that place and talk to Aoko Aozaki to upgrade your Servant's parameters.

    • Garden:
Once you go out of the Chapel, you'll see an event with Shinji Matou.
    Arena:
    • First Chimeric Lunar Sea — Second Floor:
This map is a lot bigger compared to the first one so it wouldn't look as good when embedded. Click the image to enlarge. The item Faded Journal labeled with a star on the map is an item that will only appear during this day. Grab it to initiate the next Servant Battle.

Taiga's Request will only show up on the map if you accepted her request.

    • Servant Battle:
After picking up the item Faded Journal, Shinji and his Servant will appear on the map and chase after you. A battle will ensue when you meet.

Victory Condition: Survive for 3 turns.
His Servant is still the same as before, so the same tactic could still be applied.
      Enemy Servant Matrix Level 3.

      SKILL LIST:
      Culverin Cannons
      Target: Enemy
Inflicts physical damage on an enemy.
She will use this skill on the 3rd move.
      CODE CAST:
      shock(32);
Physical damage and Stun on enemy.
The effect would only last for 1 move.
      loss_lck(64);
      Decreases enemy's luck.
The effect would only last for 3 turns.
Pretty pointless considering that you don't have much luck at this point.

    • Second Cipher Key:
Grab the Trigger Code Beta before exiting the Arena as you'll need it on Day 7.

    • Taiga's Request:
Grab the Tangerine before exiting the Arena as you'll need it on Day 6.

    Day 5

    Evening:
    • School Building 1F:
Head to the Arena Entrance and you'll notice that the door has been sealed shut by Shinji. You'll need to search for the two sigils to remove the seal. Now head to the Nurse's Office and you'll find the 1st Sigil attached to the door.

    • School Building 2F:
Head to the Library to see another event involving Shinji Matou and Rin Tousaka. After the event, proceed to enter the Library and search the shelves to find information about the Golden Hind.

    • Classroom 2-A:
You can find the 2nd Sigil attached to Shinji's desk. The Arena is now unlocked.
    Arena:
    • First Chimeric Lunar Sea — Second Floor:
I recommend getting all items here before they all get replaced the next day with Pirate Bounties, only the Trigger Code is an exemption to this rule. Also, fill up 100% of the map before leaving so you will know your way around during the Treasure Hunting event the next day.

    Day 6

    Evening:
    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Taiga Fujimura and give her the Tangerine so she'll give you the key item Taiga's Lamp as a reward. You can view the said item inside your Private Room
    Arena:
    • First Chimeric Lunar Sea — Second Floor:
The map is still the same but the previous items have been removed and replaced with new ones. Be sure to memorize this before starting the next event. Click to enlarge.

    • Treasure Hunting:
Shinji's Servant will become stronger for each treasure they receive, so you must stop them at all cost. Each Pirate Booty can be sold for 2000 PPT at the Commissary, so you're not just doing this to stop their progress but for the treasure too. It would be a good idea to expand the map by pressing the SELECT button so you can see where you are going.

On your first playthrough, you can only get 3 Pirate Bounties at best by cornering them after they reach the 2nd treasure and defeating them in battle or simply by running fast enough while evading all the enemies. However, if you are playing on a New Game Plus you can equip Enhancement Spike to Code Cast move_speed() and catch them before they can even get to the first treasure. This guarantees you all 5 Pirate Bounties.

    • Servant Battle:
      Victory Condition:
      Survive for 3 turns.
She'll start using a new Skill from this point onwards. That Skill is Profligate Pillaging and it will boost the damage of her ATTACK based on how many treasure she got during this event. Considering that we stopped her from getting all of the treasures, the boost shouldn't be much. Just heal at the end of each turn if you feel like being cautious.

      SKILL LIST:
      Culverin Cannons
      Target: Enemy
Inflicts physical damage on an enemy.
She will use this skill on the 3rd move.
      Profligate Pillaging
      Target: Self
ATTACK power increases based on treasure found.
She will use this skill on the 1st move.
This Skill is affected by how many Pirate Bounties she got during the Treasure Hunting event.
      CODE CAST:
      shock(32);
Physical damage and Stun on enemy.
The effect would only last for 1 move.
      loss_lck(64);
      Decreases enemy's luck.
The effect would only last for 3 turns.
Pretty pointless considering that you don't have much luck at this point.

It is also possible to defeat this Servant with a Lv. 10 Saber if you use all your SP into boosting her Strength, or a Lv. 13 Caster if you use all your SP into boosting her Magic. Watch the videos below.

      SABER:

      ARCHER:

      She dual-wields pistols.

      She wields a massive rifle.

      A ship.

      An airplane.

      A chariot.

      Francis Drake.

      Francois l'Olonnais.

      Henry Morgan.

      Enemy Servant Matrix Level E.

    • School Building 1F:
Talk to Father Kotomine if you are ready and select the first option to proceed.

      Enter the Coliseum

      Continue Preparations

    • Elevator to the Coliseum:
Before the battle, you and Shinji will have a little chat and you'll be given a few options to choose from. Worry not, for any choices you made in this conversation will not have any impact to the story.

      INITIAL CHOICES:
      RESULT A
      I won't know unless I try.
      RESULT A
      You can do that?

      RESULT A:
      RESULT B
      Sure.
      END

      No thank you.

      RESULT B:
      END
      Reject
      END
      I'm too appalled to respond.
    Coliseum:
    • Servant Battle:
Victory Condition: Defeat Rider. (3,094 HP)
She's pretty much the same as when you fought her during the 6th day so if you managed to bring her down to 0 HP in that battle, you can pretty much bring her down the same way.

      NOBLE PHANTASM:
      Hunt of the Golden Hind
      Target: Enemy
      Condition: HP is below 30%.
Damage inflicted is based on win/loss total.
She will use this skill on the 6th move.
The damage is affected by how many times she landed a successful hit on you during that turn so be careful.
      CODE CAST:
      shock(32);
Physical damage and Stun on enemy.
The effect would only last for 1 move.
      loss_lck(64);
      Decreases enemy's luck.
The effect would only last for 3 turns.
Pretty pointless considering that you don't have much luck at this point.

      SABER:

      ARCHER:

      CASTER:

    • Aftermath:
Rin will talk to you after the battle and you will be prompted for an option. Just answer whatever you feel like, since it won't affect anything in the story.

      I'm prepared.

      I can't prepare for that.

      I know I should, but...

    End of the First Round

I know that it's kinda unethical to be happy about someone's death, but that cocky bastard really pissed me off since the very beginning. He never failed to annoy me, so I must say that I quite enjoyed killing that brat.

Actually, if you turn left at the fork when Treasure Hunting, there are three treasures in that direction, while there are only two in the dead end to the right. Shinji and Rider always go right, so if you go left and rush it fast, you always win. No battles involved.

I never understood the fanatism of japanese people of that kind of "choose-the-sentence" games, it's fine for hentai, but normal ones...

Just want to let you know that it is also possible to kill her on day six with Archer. I was lv 9 with 49 strength and got 2 endurance drops from Red Hound.

You know what forget that I;m an idiot, I only killed her because I was using the Celestial Blade strength boost in NG+

epic game but i keep getting stuck at archer in week 2 but REALLY fun either way

You do not need a level 13 caster to beat Rider to zero HP during day 6. If you have a Silver Anklet you can equip it after buffing movement speed with Enhancement Spikes. I did it with lvl 12 caster and am preety sure could have done with lvl 11(even lvl10) caster if I had figured it out earlier. I belive its the same with Saber and Archer.
Well.. in the end its pretty pointless feat anyway.

    Sincerely, ilker.

i agree with hating shinji, hes annoying and cocky, and to top it all off trys to play you wooping his butt as a fluke and trys to bargain with you. in the end i must say he got everything he deserved. even his servant took death with grace.

Man, I wish there were a choice to pick Rider as player's servant. She's wasted with Shinji.

damn i wish El Drake (shinji's servant) was a playable servant as well. . fuck! id love how she , would develop feelings for the mc, like will she be a tsundere like Nero(Saber) and Rin? a yandere like Tamamo (Caster) or somewhat like Rani. . .
    zanmendana. .

I thought I'd feel better about it than I did. But... well, mofo was only an eight-year-old boy with no idea of what was going on.

I'd kill for Pirate!Rider to be a playable character. She was a badass. I also feel she was kind of wasted by being paired with Shinji.

How I wish she were to replace Archer as selectable servant. Hell they should've made all class servant selectable.
