Archer is the middle ground between Saber and Caster. His fighting style is similar to Saber but his stat growth is similar to Caster, which won't benefit his fighting style that much. Aside from the dilemma in which status parameter to upgrade, he's relatively easy to play with. Here's a guide to playing Archer.
Archer — A stoic warrior clothed in red robes —
Status
STATUS ENHANCEMENT:
Strength
Raises damage done to enemies. It is recommended to invest as much SP as possible into this parameter as this is his main stat despite having a lower growth speed. EX RANK: 141 SP
Defense
Lowers damage done to enemies. Defense doesn't only makes you tough but increases Skill damage as well. So invest into this parameter when your Strength is high enough. EX RANK: 121 SP
Agility
Stabilizes damage stats, raises skill speed. Invest into this parameter only if you have some extra SP to spare. EX RANK: 120 SP
Magic
Raises magic ability, lowers damage from magic. Invest into this parameter only if you have some extra SP to spare. EX RANK: 106 SP
Luck
Raises critical hit rate and defense when in jeopardy. Never invest in this stat. EX RANK: 169 SP

I really recommend viewing the special conversation when using a female character during Rin's route. Archer's reaction during that conversation is priceless. I mean, it's not everyday that you get to see Archer fall off his chair just because of a single question.
I feel so "Irritated 2" right now for not proofreading this post before publishing it. Thanks for pointing that out though. I was gonna post about PSO2 but I thought to myself, why not finish the old guide first.
a note about UBW, when the skill ends, you can no longer increase your projection beyond 1 for that battle, all attempts will be counted as "invalid" instead(pre projection, fortification), makes you do nothing on that block you've assigned the skill to, just like what happens when attempting caster's last skill when you're not under 30% HP
i only found out once when i fought shiki with archer, because she didn't die when UBW ends, the next turn i tried to bring my count to 3 so i can spam caladbolg, both boxes that i casted pre projection ended with "invalid"(thank god it was a "guard" action), leaving me with only hrunting and a severely weakened crane wing to finish her off, still won easily though, but if i'm not thoughtful, that 2 failed moves could've killed me
UBW is theoretically the fastest NP that the playable sevrants has, you can activate is as soon as the 2nd turn and dominate the battle real quick, which is why it also have several downsides like no extra/NP only attacks and the NP itself doesn't do damage, wasting 1 block in order to use it
the NP also kills your projection level back to 1 when its over, so activating it too early would be a bad idea in case you wanted to perform rho aias at some point, it's also the most costly to use since your normals&hrunting are still as weak as ever during it, forcing you to spam crane wing~caladbolg to make good use of it, something which only an elixir could maximize its potential since archer's MP isn't that much to start with and Mp heal CC cannot keep up with his MP guzzling skills.
i found this walkthrough several months ago, and i have to say, out of all the ones i found for fate/extra, this was my favourite and go-to guide. everything is so detailed and very easy to follow. archer was my first servant though, so it killed me that you didn't have a detailed guide for him at the time xD
with my first few archer playthroughs, i used builds similar to the one you recommended, where str was my main stat. however, in my last archer playthrough, i tried out a new build that worked exceptionally well for me, and one which i will use again, cos it was just so much fun. the build is as follows: STR - A DEF - D AGI - B MAG - A
it has been a while since i had picked up the game, so correct me if i'm wrong, but i think both def and mag increase archer's skill damage, but it's advisable to focus on one or the other, and not both, so recommended builds for him would be focused on either str/def or str/mag.
While using Archer, for many of the later bosses I simply didn't use UBW at all.
For me, what I found to be generally more effective was to raise Projection to x5 as quickly as safe to do so, and just keep it there. Raising Projection makes the negative status effect from Archer's Weaken/Fatigue skill far more likely to actually connect, as well as keeping Seven Rings (what I think of as Archer's true trump card in this game) handy to counter the enemy Noble Phantasm.
I'm trying out a joke spec involving only *endurance + magic* on NG++... I'll post update whether it works D:
Cleared Rider at lvl 11 (turtled) Cleared Archer at lvl 19 (almost got outhealed due to regen buff) Fail on Caster at 23, (grinding levels at the moment...)
Cleared Berserker at 31 (Dragon Cloak + Angelic Trumpet; Rho Aias on every NP)
Cleared Assasin at lvl 34 (at 129 magic, 94 endurance)
At this point I can confirm that Archer's SKILL damage does not come from Endurance or Magic. My Caladbolg only does ~2000 inside UBW, compared to the 4000+ in the videos.
I am almost certain now that SKILL damage for Archer comes from Strength.
Defense: Increases physical defense Increases magic/skill damage (on the same level as the magic stat!) Slightly increases physical damage (?)
Luck: Marginal increase to physical and magic/skill damage. Increases chances of stuff happening.
Agility: Stabilizes damage input What you read mostly
Something notable is that increasing any stat buffs another unmentioned stat. The most notable one is that increasing the defense stat increases magical strength as much as increasing the magic stat. I'm not 100% sure about the validity of this claim (although it does make sense as otherwise how would Saber do so much damage with her skills without investing in her magic stat?). But it seems that every single stat increases the damage stat in a very small (or rather large in the case of defense) way. It also seems to be the same way with every other stat (probably) or at least for every major stat (Every stat other than luck and agility). I've also heard that strength improves magic/skill damage by the same amount as the magic stat but that's doubtful and the source doesn't follow the Japanese wiki.
The most effective stats to increase physical damage, in order: STR > CON > AGI = LUK > MAG
The most effective stats to increase magical damage, in order: MAG = CON > STR > AGI > LUK
Although this might be only specific to Caster. Considering how lazy the game mechanics of this game can be, that's unlikely.
One thing I noticed while using Archer. Contrary to what some may think, a Magic-centered Archer can be nearly a Game-Breaker.
Pretty much all his skills benefit from Strength, along with his attacks. All, except 1: Caladbolg II, which in the english version is called Fake Helix Sword. This one benefits from Magic, instead of Strength.
Now, why is Magic Archer a Game-Breaker? Because with a high enough Magic stat, and with Unlimited Blade Works active, using Caladbolg II can deal so much damage, it makes every single fight a potential joke. Even Shiki (unless she kills your ability to use the skills, then you're fucked).
This means, with a Magic-focused Archer, Late Game becomes a complete joke dificulty-wise, which lets you enjoy the story happily without worries. And you can always increase his endurance so he doesn't become a glass cannon.
And if you don't want to depend so much on it, just increase the strength stat. The important thing is that you leave MP for Projections and Caladbolg II. Because every other one of Archer's damaging skills pales in comparison if you focus on Magic.
Endurance barely affects physical and magical attacks, so a STR+END Archer won't deal as much damage as a MAG Archer with Caladbolg II. Agility is important too, but not as much unless you really want to go first when both sides use a skill in the same turn. Luck doesn't really change anything too important or noticeable, and his E Luck is Canon too, so why increase it.
So, overall, I used this:
STR=C END=C AGI=E MAG=A++ LUC=E Nothing lasts more than 2 turns. At worst, when I feel lazy, or used Rho Aias, 4 turns.
After being in relationship with Wilson for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that don’t believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I meant a spell caster called Dr Zuma zuk and I email him, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. Also, invest all points in Luck, land crit hits 100% of the time. (Still do mediocre damage, but it's cool nonetheless).
Interesting class, thanks for sharing!

what is this for?

@draewon
Thanks for that bit of info. I haven't experienced that yet since Archer is just too strong that the enemy dies before UBW ends.

Anyone know where I can view the Rin route scenes as FemMC? Didn't know about them and I'm halfway through as the MaleMC...

Though comparing it with my earlier, first playthrough save, where I have the stats ACBDE leaves me in tears ;_;
Archer's "official" stats are crap! With a Strength/Agility centered build he tears through all opposition and nukes bosses like a Boss!
Still, Cleared Shiki with a DCCBE spread, so I guess I deserve SOME trophy. Only used one elixir!
My agility rank for archer increase from E to D with 27, not 26. I thought that maybe it increase with 2.25 points for 1 SP?
im confused...the guide said that never invest in luck but someone said to invest it all to luck.is it recommended or not?????
i can't understand what does projection do and other skills relating to projection
I tested an archer full Attack / Luck and until it was cool, but I recommend or Attack / Def or Attack / Magic.
Agility is very bad, only serves to Caster.
I got the conversation about NPCs during day 2 (I came back after talking about Rin).
Just going to say something about these stats for all the characters. It's pretty vague as to what they do but I think I've figured it out.
